GERALD CORCORAN Obituary

CORCORAN, M.D., Gerald Powers Age 85, of Needham, MA, died suddenly, December 1, 2025. A devoted husband, father and grandparent, Dr. Corcoran was born December 20, 1939, in Boston, to Mary P. and Henry J. Corcoran, Sr., who predeceased him; as did his elder siblings, Henry J. Corcoran, Jr. and Janet O'Neil. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Firth Corcoran; sons, Gregory and his spouse, Ann S. Corcoran, Douglas and Keith; his daughter, Cristine Corcoran More and her spouse, Kevin More; and six grandchildren, Andrew More, Julianna More, Sean Corcoran, Mary Corcoran, Colm Corcoran and Liam Corcoran. He treasured his family and grandchildren and took immense joy in their accomplishments. A graduate of Boston College and the University of Vermont College of Medicine, Dr. Corcoran served eight years in the U.S. Navy, during which he received a commendation for his groundbreaking work in family medicine from the U.S. Surgeon General. After his service, he founded Needham Family Practice Associates, caring for patients for the next 54 years until his death. He lectured widely on medical ethics and held academic appointments at the University of Massachusetts Chan School of Medicine, Tufts University School of Medicine and Boston University School of Medicine. Dedicated to Catholic education, he volunteered as physician for St. Joseph School in Needham for 50 years. Dr. Corcoran was active in the Massachusetts Medical Society, the Guild of St. Luke in Boston, which he restarted at the request of Bernard Cardinal Law and served as president for a decade and the Catholic Medical Association, serving in several leadership roles. He was a Knight of the Grand Cross of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. Visitation will be held at George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Avenue, in NEEDHAM, on December 8, from 4–7 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., on December 9, at St. Joseph Church in Needham. Earlier today

We are so deeply saddened to lose Dr. Corcoran.... He was my rock. No other Medical professional was as trusted and respected by our family, for his patience, knowledge, and time he put in explaining issues to us, even with analogies when necessary. He was a Concierge doctor before there were any... always 'on call'. He has helped us with kindness and compassion through our personal tragedy as he had continued for almost 50 years . The last time I saw him I told him he needed to stay well and outlive us. We couldn't be without his input and advice... Our deepest sympathy and prayers go out to Mrs. Corcoran and all his family. He served so many well. The Kaup Family

I have been a patient of Dr. Corcoran´s from the very beginning. Many years. From a young man now through older adulthood. I have always enjoyed his wit, charm, and his advice on things, and not just medically related. He will be sorely missed. Rest in peace.

I first met Dr. Corcoran when I was about 14 years old. He treated both of my parents Ken and Beverly Winslow and was on his second generation of our family. He had such a gentle way he cared so deeply for his patients. Also had a great wit he told me that he broke his hip in a very dangerous place my livingroom. Always remember when he entered the examination room I would always ask him "How are you?" He always turned the question and asked more importantly how are you doing? He never would answer the question. He was far more than a doctor he will always be remembered in my heart. You will always have a special place. Rest in Peace my friend! Salute for a life well lived.
