Gerald Cornwall Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dunn Family Funeral Home with Crematory on Nov. 2, 2025.
Gerald "Gerry" Wayne Cornwall, 97, of Oswego, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025, in Bloomington, Illinois.
Born on October 13, 1928, in Aurora, Illinois, Gerry was the son of Howard B. and Esther Cornwall. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Ruth, and brothers Marvin and Kenneth.
On September 7, 1963, Gerry married the love of his life, Carolyn Jane Gould. Together they raised two sons, David Gerald and Ronald Wayne.
A proud Eagle Scout, Gerry exemplified a lifelong commitment to service. He served as an Assistant Scout Leader and Committee Member of Boy Scout Troop 31 in Oswego, Illinois, and was honored with the prestigious Charles Pierce Burton Award for his many years of dedication to Scouting and his community. He took great pride in seeing his sons and grandsons continue the family's Eagle Scout tradition.
Gerry also served faithfully in his church, volunteering for many years to count offerings at the Oswego Presbyterian Church.
His professional career began while still in college, working for Northern Illinois Gas Company (Nicor). Over the years, he rose to become Manager of the Statistical Services Department and chaired several national industry committees.
A lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears, Gerry enjoyed using his computer, sports, music, and time outdoors. He was an enthusiastic bowler and an avid golfer well into his 90s, relishing both the challenge of the game and the friendships it brought. He loved traveling, especially road trips to Florida and memorable adventures to Las Vegas with his sons.
Though a man of few words, Gerry was known for his quick wit, kind heart, and wonderful smile. His devotion to family was the foundation of his life and will be deeply remembered by all who knew him.
Gerry is survived by his loving wife Carolyn, his sons David (Colleen) of Bloomington, Illinois and Ronald of West Chicago, Illinois, and his three cherished grandsons-Matthew, Shawn, and Ryan Cornwall.
