Gerald Elliott Davis, 84, husband of Carlyne F. "Carlie" (Jensen) Davis passed away on Tuesday evening, December 3, 2013, at Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Gloucester, MA surrounded by his loving family. Gerry was born in Gloucester on February 9, 1929 to the late Daniel K. and Dorothy (Morris) Davis. He attended St. Ann's elementary school and graduated from Gloucester High School with the class of 1947 as Lt. Colonel of the R.O.T.C. Gerry began working for his father at L.B. Nauss Lumber Co. where he developed his skills for the building business. On April 23, 1950, he married Carlie and they were blessed to share more than 63 years together. He was known for his friendly and smiling personality and though he experienced many years of health issues his smile always endured. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and then returned to L.B. Nauss until the suspicious fires of the early 1950's destroyed the lumber yard. He and his friend Gene Amero then began working as carpenters and formed the company Amero and Davis. He then became owner of Cape Ann Glass, where he combined his knowledge of building with the glass business. Everything to do with building brought him back to the occupation he truly loved until his retirement. Gerry then became the custodian of St. Peter's Church. He truly enjoyed this period in his life until the Church's closing. During his retirement he taught himself the art of chip carving and created many beautiful designs from carved crosses to furniture. This hobby brought him much pleasure. Gerry was a Eucharistic Minister and a member of St. Peter's Church, St. Vincent de Paul and a Special Prayer group that he and his wife shared. Through several decades his relationships with Fr. Ron Barker and Fr. Tom Flemming greatly enriched his life. He is survived by his wife Carlie; daughter, Deborah A., companion of Tom Savage; son, Jeffrey M., husband of Reneé; granddaughter, Danielle Mayer, her father Tim Mayer and great grandson, Leo, who brought him much joy as Papa; brother, Lawrence J., and his wife, Doris; special nieces, Faye Baxter, Dona Hobin, Terri Doane, Kathy Davis, and many caring nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, especially Dot Batchelder and Becca Borden. In addition to his parents he was pre-deceased by his brothers Daniel K. and wife, Kay; John (Jack) and wife, Lee; sister, Jeanne Wood, and husband, Bill. His funeral will be held from the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St. Gloucester on Saturday, December 7 at 10:15 am followed by a Mass in St. Ann's Church, Holy Family Parish at 11:00 am. Family and friends are cordially invited. Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home will be on Friday from 4-8 pm. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.
