Gerald Downs Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Givnish Funeral Home - Cinnaminson on Mar. 6, 2026.
Gerald Alfred Downs, Jr., of Southampton, NJ, passed away on March 3rd, 2026, after his long battle with cancer, at the age of 69.

Born to the late Gerald A. Downs, Sr., and Rita (nee Kelly) on July 8th, 1956, in Philadelphia, PA. Jerry is the beloved brother of Gary Downs, Gregory (Teresa) Downs, and the late Linda Downs-Ash. Growing up, Jerry attended Cinnaminson Alternative School as part of the class of 1974. While attending school, Jerry had the pleasure of meeting the wonderful Donna Yannessa. After high school, Jerry and Donna had gone on to pursue their individual goals before fate brought them back together. Donna and Jerry bonded over music, art, and compassion for those around them. The pair married on November 12th, 1988, and spent a loving 37 years together. The couple enjoyed going to museums, antiquing, and spending time with their beloved animals. Jerry had a heart of gold and showed compassion to everyone, humans and animals alike. Jerry leaves behind his beloved dog Fletcher, mini horse Tom Bombadil, donkey Ernie, horses Ralphie and Tater Tot, and of course his cats, Fiona, Loki, Colin, and Mini. He is remembered fondly by his many cousins, nephews, and friends for his witty humor and selfless personality.

Jerry spent his time indulging himself in the arts of the world. He loved to read history and science fiction and his family and friends fondly remembers him quoting the text of the of works of J.R.R. Tolkien. Jerry had a wonderful memory and would remember key details of history to share with his friends. When Jerry was not reading, he was spending time playing music or listening to music. Jerry had a keen ear when it came to music, he could listen to a song and play various instruments to the songs, such as guitar, piano, even banjo. Jerry enjoyed music and the connection it gave to others around him, sharing his knowledge and life experiences. Jerry gave an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on, or a hand to hold to anyone who needed it.

Jerry will be remembered fondly by those who knew and loved him for his compassion, generosity, and his heart of gold.

Please donate to a local animal shelter in the memory of Jerry.

Services in his honor will be held at a later date.
