For you Mr. President...

WEEP NOT FOR ME

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

I first met with Jerry Ford in his office when I was seeking a congressional nomination to the USMA (WestPoint) in 1961. Jerry was always a gracious man and a leader with principals. He represented Western Michigan well during 1948-1976. My heart felt sympathies go out to Betty and their children and grandchildren. His leadership will be missed and he will not be forgotten.

Dear Ford Family--
I am not even a Republican, but I ALWAYS LOVED President Ford and ALWAYS admired Mrs. Ford. I loved him even more after his death and the release of his last interview. What a decent, honest man. I am glad he stood for what he believed in to the end. If you havent seen the tribute cartoon that Scott Stantis did of him after he died in the Birmingham News, look it up on the net under Scott Stantis. It is such a joyful and peaceful tribute to him. Thank you for everything you have done for women and for our country Mrs. Ford. You and Eleanor Roosevelt are the number one First Ladies of all time.
Sincerely, yours

Mr. Ford: Go on Eagles Wings

John Underwood

January 24, 2007

The Nation suffered the loss of one of it’s greatest’s Heros a few weeks ago. Gerald R. Ford, brought out from this country a bitterly divided, depressed people, by a simple statement immediately after his swearing in as our 38th President; "America, Our Nightmare Is Over.” Those words were heard around the world. It regained respect, not only for the office of Presidency but to a questioning Nation paralyzed by the divisiveness drawing one American against another. It regained respect amongst other Nations whose support from the United States was so crucial.

History may or may not record him as a great President. Only time and unwritten history books will do that. But he was the last of the “progressives” or “moderates” of Republicanism, where the deficit is balanced and compromise is not defined as defeat, and where moving in the correct direction is done so by just listening to the common man/woman who today has all but been forgotten.

During his run for President in 1976 he once said: “Progress not platitudes. Performance not promises.” He lived up to that principle, despite public opinion polls, jokes, and usual media frenzies.

Thank you President Ford. You made US proud then, and reminded us of it again!

Let us not mourn but celebrate with Gerald on his walk of honor to our Savior, the Lord, Jesus Christ! The philosophy statement of Gerald is one with the Lord “A government big enough to give us everything we want is a government big enough to take from us everything we have” As is with our Savior, the Lord, Jesus Christ.

In 1976 I was a Ford delegate at the Iowa caucus and state convention, and an alternate delegate to the national convention. Turning 18 that fall, and voting for the first time, I had studied/lived through Watergate and was to major in poli sci in college that fall. President Ford was a decent, honorable man who brought integrity, humanity and healing to the White House when it was most needed. I remember the excitement of his visit(s) to Des Moines, where I watched him speak from the capitol grounds while I was still in high school. His midwestern sensibilities, kindness and understated (but firm)personality remind me of my Dad. What a treasure was President Ford, and I offer condolences to his family. Across the country we gave him a beautiful, respectful farewell - evidence of his providential place in our history and hearts.

I grew up in Grand Rapids and went to Central High with Mrs. Ford. My husband Jack double dated with Mrs Ford and her friend. We were thrilled to see them at the opening of the Ford Presidential Museum. Mrs. Ford recognized my husband and greeted him warmly. Gerald Ford was a wonderful President and he made the people of Grand Rapids so proud!I was impressed by how lovingly Mrs. Ford was treated by her children at the many services held around the country. Their love and devotion will help her through her heartache. America lost a wonderful leader with the death of Gerald Ford
