Funeral service for Gerald “Jerry” Gerlach will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 26, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Zachery Viggers officiating; interment to follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 25, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Gerald Gerlach, 95, went home to his Lord and Savior on July 20, 2024. Gerald (a.k.a.) Jerry was born in Douglas County, South Dakota to Gottlieb Gerlach and Anna Titze Gerlach on August 4, 1928. He spent his youth on a farm in South Dakota. He met Iona Browen, who became his wife on August 21, 1949. Jerry and Iona remained on the farm where their daughters were born. Vee in 1950, Lynn in 1953. They left farming life and moved to Michigan where their third daughter Lee was born in 1956. It took a while for Jerry to find his true calling in life, but he finally found it in Gillette, Wyoming when he went to work and retired from Getter Trucking. He could not stay retired, so he started driving truck for Harry Reynolds until the age of 75. He cared for his wife until her passing in 2008. Jerry’s three girls were the light of his life. They were the true reason he remained in this life for 15 ½ years after the passing of his wife. He loved them beyond measure. Jerry is preceded in death by his wife, Iona, brothers Harvey Gerlach and Norman Gerlach; sisters Irene Blunt and Marlys Pemrick, and son-in-law John E. Lavrenz. Jerry is survived by sister Ruth Moeller of Ames, IA; daughters, Vee (Dave) Bleizeffer, Lynn (Bill) McDonald, and Lee Lavrenz of Gillette. Jerry was also blessed with and is survived by 6 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
