Gerald (Gerry) Bertie, 74, passed away on Friday, December 8th at the St. Cloud Hospital with his family by his side.
Gerry was born on October 9, 1949, to Raymond and Elaine Bertie. He grew up in Babbitt, MN. He met the love of his life, Mary, at the age of 6. His grandmother lived in the same neighborhood as Mary and he pursued her all the way to college and beyond. They were married on August 21, 1971, and shared 52 years of wedded bliss. They were seldom apart and their love story is like none other. Part of her went to heaven with him.
Gerry and Mary moved from their home of 40 years in Eagan, MN in 2020 and made the cabin in Crosslake, MN their new home. They both retired for the second time when Covid hit. For the past two winters they went to Florida for January and February, where they enjoyed the warmth, the ocean, beautiful sunsets, spending time with old friends and making many new friends.
Gerry loved boating, camping, fishing, golfing, and mostly, his family. He had a wonderful sense of humor, he was the best card player and he knew how to captain his pontoon like no other.
Gerry is survived by his wife, Mary, son Paul (Kristi), daughter Erin (Robert) Stoering; grandchildren Aiden, Rin, Mason, Ayla and Adelyn; brothers Dennis (Sharon) and Joe (Jerri); and sisters Eleen Ray, Karen Bertie (Joe Radtke) and Ann Fiega.
Gerry is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Elaine and his in-laws, Rin and Emma Niemi.
Funeral services have been entrusted to the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will take place at 11 am on December 15, 2023, at Immaculate Heart Church, 35208 County Road 37, Crosslake, with visitation at 10 am. Interment will be at Pinewood Cemetery in Crosslake.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the charity of your choosing.
