Gerald Roy Hasson
"Jerry"
October 29, 1941-June 1, 2025
Jerry was born on October 29, 1941 to Dorathy Regina Hasson and Gerald Bernard Hasson in North Tonawanda, New York. His sister Dian was born a few years later. The family left New York when Jerry was a year old and moved back and forth between southern California and southern Oregon for several years finally settling in Redondo Beach.
Jerry graduated from Mira Costa High School and joined the Navy where he trained as an electronics technician and traveled several times to Japan and Hong Kong. Upon discharge, he enrolled at El Camino Junior College where he met his future wife, Gigi. They married on August 10, 1968 and moved to Northridge where they attended Valley State (now CSUN). Jerry earned his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and worked first for General Motors, then as an auditor for the State, before joining Rockwell International (now Boeing) as an industrial engineer. In March of 1972 they moved to Simi Valley and have lived in the same home since. In 1971 their daughter Pamela was born, and in 1975 their family was complete with the birth of Malisa. He retired in the mid '90s to pursue his passion building astronomical Dobsonian telescopes.
From the time he was a teenager, Jerry loved astronomy, photography and studying ancient Egypt. He also enjoyed the outdoors, camping and mountaineering. More than once he climbed to the top of Mt. Whitney and hiked rim to rim in the Grand Canyon. He was also a member of the Ventura County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Team. In the early 1990's Jerry and Gigi joined the Ventura County Astronomical Society and were very active with many of the club's outreach programs. They loved to chase total solar eclipses and were fortunate to travel the world in that pursuit. Jerry and Gigi shared a lifelong love and fascination for Yosemite National Park, after visiting on their honeymoon, and visited as often as they could. In April 2018, to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, Jerry and Gigi traveled to Egypt, fulfilling a lifelong dream. Jerry is survived by his wife, Gigi, daughters Pamela Mikita (Michael) and Malisa Riceci (Brannon); grandchildren Emma Mikita, William Mikita, Tuesday Riceci, Ferris Riceci; sister Dian Hasson (Gary); nephew Jason Oakes; niece Rachel Oakes; brother-in-law Ari Grossman (Jennifer).
Jerry's love and dedication to his wife and daughters where beyond measure. He will be dearly missed.
