CEDAR – Gerald Joseph Jakee, 87, of Cedar, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at Orchard Creek Assisted Living.
Gerald was born on May 11, 1935 in Detroit, the son of Frank and Emily (Nowak) Jakee.
On May 26, 1991 in Hawaii, he married Kelly (Kuzera) Jakee, who survives.
Gerald loved taking care of his Leelanau County property and entertaining friends and family there. He had koi in his pond and had given them names. He was an avid athlete and carried this love into coaching. Gerald enjoyed fishing, camping, Detroit Tigers, and cooking.
Gerald is survived by his wife of 32 years, Kelly; his son, Chris (Laverne) Jakee; two daughters, Laura (Andy) Montalbano, Karen Jakee; his first wife, Joyce Jakee; six grandchildren, Matthew (Kelsey) Jakee, Lindsay (Ryan) Ogden, Anthony (Katie) Montalbano, Sienna (Mark) Seay, Justin Montalbano, Mariza Montalbano; and two great-grandchildren, Dutton and Jillian.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gerald J. Jakee II; two brothers, Clarence and Bobby; and a sister, Virginia Murphy.
The Mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 17 at 1 p.m. with the family greeting friends at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church of Cedar. Cremation will follow and burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery at a later date. Father Donald Libby will serve as celebrant.
Memorials may be directed to Holy Rosary Church, 6982 S. Schomberg Road, Cedar, MI 49621 and/or to the Cedar Hilltoppers, 7949 S. Schomberg Road, Cedar, MI 49621.
