Gerald Murray

Gerald (Jerry) Murray passed away on Sunday December 14th, 2025 in Penn Hills at the age of 87 after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his wife Patrica Delle Donne Murray and his son Gerald Cameron Murray. Jerry was retired from the US Postal Service.

Jerry was born February fourth 1938 to John and Dorinda Murray. John was a Scottish immigrant and wore his Murray Clan tartan with pride. Jerry learned to play the bagpipes at a young age.

He was a piper in the McDonald Pipe Band and later the Laurel Highlanders Pipe Band. Jerry and his wife Patty (who was a drummer in the band) spent summers participating in parades and competing in Pipe Band competitions with the Laurel Highlander Pipe Band at Scottish Highland games from Canada to Georgia. Jerry's children and grandchildren would often accompany their grandparents, marching alongside the band and rooting for the Highlanders in the competitions. Those summers will be etched in the memories of all those who were lucky enough to attend.

Jerry is survived by daughters Debra Murray Zakrzewski (Ted) and Laura Carlin (Jim), four grandchildren Ian Carlin, Kristin Zakrzewski Shannon, Kelsey Zakrzewski Saunders, and Elizabeth Carlin and nine great grandchildren Saylor, Atlas, Legend and Coast Saunders, Emarie, Easton and Eliana Shannon, Emilia and Enzo Carlin.
