Gerald "Gerry" Rosenberger, 95, of Harleysville, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at Peter Becker Community on November 13, 2023. He was born on April 10, 1928 to Alvin and Marietta Rosenberger of Chalfont, Pennsylvania and was the second oldest of 7 children.
He graduated from Doylestown High School in 1946 and shortly thereafter enlisted in the Marines. He obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was honorably discharged from the Marines after serving in the Korean war. He then enrolled in the Georgia Institute of Technology where he graduated in 1954 with honors and in the mid-70's went on to receive his Masters Degree from the University of Vermont.
He met his sweetheart, Mildred "Millie" Milam while in the marines and got married on July 1, 1950. He and Millie settled in Saugerties, New York where he worked for IBM as an electrical engineer. While with IBM he accumulated several patents and became instrumental in the production of large-scale integration chips. During his tenure with IBM he also taught at Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. After retiring from IBM he taught Engineering Technology at Ulster County Community College. He also served on the Official Board of the Saugerties United Methodist Church and was instrumental in the training of lay ministers.
He was proud to have designed his family's home in Saugerties where he and Millie settled and became proud parents of twin boys, Stanley "Stan" and Stephen "Steve", and then five years later the proud parents of Charles "Chuck".
After Millie's passing, Gerry moved to Peter Becker Community in Harleysville, Pennsylvania to be closer to his family. Gerry made many friends while at Peter Becker but his closest friend, Sally Moyer was very special to him. They enjoyed playing board games and WII. Gerry especially enjoyed when Sally played the piano so they could sing together, and he could share his deep bass voice with others. Sally was a great companion to Gerry and kept his spirit joyful. Gerry loved singing and the competitiveness of card games. He loved the phrases "try to be nice" and "not half bad" and was a real joker. He will be missed by everyone.
Gerry is survived by his son, Stanley (Masumi) Rosenberger, Charles (Johnette) Rosenberger, sisters, Miriam Fox, Constance Sithens and Joyce Annis, grandchildren, Kevan Wilmerton, Leah Shinn, Adam Rosenberger, Brian Rosenberger, Neal Rosenberger, Scott (Rachel) Rosenberger, and 8 great grand-children. He is predeceased by son, Stephen Rosenberger, brothers, Eldon Rosenberger and Dale Rosenberger and sister, Dorothea Beyer.
The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to Ron and Janet Beyer who have unselfishly given of their love and time to take care of Gerry since his moving to Harleysville and truly exhibiting the love of God.
Also, a great heartfelt thank you to the kind and caring staff of Peter Becker Community for fulfilling Gerry's desires as a resident over these past years.
The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 am on Friday, December 1, 2023 at the Peter Becker Community Chapel. Memorial services will begin at 11:00, followed by a luncheon at the Peter Becker across from the chapel at 12:00.
