Gerald "Jerry" Roy Rubert, age 88, of Indian River, died at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey on Wednesday August 20, 2025. Jerry was born in Livonia on May 29,1937 to the late William and Edna (Graf) Rubert.

In 1955, Jerry joined the Air Force where he was stationed in Limestone, Maine. Very patriotic, Jerry served his country with pride and was a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association. In October of 1959, Jerry was honorably discharged.

While at his family's resort on Mullet Lake, he met the love his life, Nancy LaChance. They were married on October 21, 1961, in Walled Lake and welcomed three children; Kimberly, Stacy, and Gregory. In 1974, Jerry and his family headed north where they made their home in Indian River. They were blessed with 52 years of marriage at the time of Nancys passing in 2014.

Jerry loved animals, especially horses and dogs. He had an adventurous side that got to come out while he was on his motorcycle. Because of his love for motorcycles, Jerry and Nancy started the Chapter Z Gold Wing Road Riders Association. Jerry also had a fascination for the HO scale railroad. His house was full of train tracks and model trains.

Jerry had a great sense of humor and lived by the motto, "We never go to have a bad time". Jerry was able to stay authentically himself until the very end. He will be remembered for his ability to bring fun into every situation and his unwavering love for his family.

Surviving Jerry are his children; Kimberly (Jim) Michaud of Topinabee, Stacy (Kevin) Stewart of Indian River and Gregory Rubert (Sheila Southwell) of Indian River. He also leaves his two granddaughters, Paige (Sean) Boughner and Rachel Stewart; great grandson, Collin; as well as his sister-in-law, Sue Rubert; and his two nephews, Tim and Bill Rubert. Preceding Jerry in death is his wife, Nancy; his parents; and his two brothers, Donald and Norman.

As were his wishes, cremation has taken place, Jerry will be honored by his family privately. Those planning an expression of sympathy, please consider a donation in honor of Jerry to the Cheboygan County Humane Society.
