Gerald Louis Sapio, 93, passed away on April 26, 2025. Gerald was born on June 4, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Sebastiano and Clementina. He had fond memories of growing up on Bergen Street with his five siblings. After graduating trade school, he was drafted into the Army where he fought in the Korean War and received three bronze stars. Upon returning from Korea, he married the late Lucy Vulpis. They were married for almost 69 years until her death in 2023. After leaving Brooklyn, Gerald moved his family to Richmondtown where he resided for the past 55 years. He started out in the private sanitation industry, before becoming a member of the New York City Sanitation Department. After retirement, he enjoyed sitting outside on his front porch talking to anyone who walked by. Gerald was a man of great faith and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He will be remembered as a loving family man. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and cooking for them. He looked forward to making homemade tomato sauce with his family each summer. Gerald is survived by his children, Joan DeRenzo (Joseph), Gerald (Maxine), Linda Paoluccio, Donna Martin (Kevin), and Lisa DelPrete (Donald). He was a loving grandfather of eight and great-grandfather of two. He was preceded in death by his oldest grandson. He is also survived by his sister Lillian and predeceased by his siblings Louis, Frances, Madeline, and Philomena. He was a loving uncle and friend to many.
Visitation will be held at Hanley Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 from 4 PM-8 PM. Mass at Saint Patrick's on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at 10 AM.
