Gerald M. Schroeder, 96, of Bellevue, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 15, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Hachmann-Mier Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Bellevue. Additional visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. prior to Mass at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.
Gerald was born on January 24, 1930, in Ossian, Iowa, the son of Frank and Florence (Wiltgen) Schroeder. Following graduation, Gerald proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Gerald married Janet “Muffin” (Scholtes) Daniels on August 20, 1960, in Ossian, Iowa. She preceded him in death on October 20, 2007. Gerald retired in 1987 from John Deere. He enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards, hunting, and especially spending time with family and friends.
Gerald is survived by his children, Jeff Schroeder, Jim (Lora) Schroeder, Dennis “Bud” (Jeanette) Schroeder, Steve (Carol) Schroeder, Ann (Pat) Schroeder, and Cindy (Doug) Payne; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; in-laws, Joanne Schroeder, Louann Scheckel, and Betty Scholtes; and numerous extended relatives.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sons, Glenn Daniels and David “Wahoo” Daniels; a great-grandson, Krayton Huling; siblings, Donald Schroeder, Robert Schroeder, and Norma Jean (Arthur) Ernst; and in-laws, Lorin Scholtes, Leonard (Becky) Scholtes, Gene Scholtes, Donald Scheckel, LaVonne (Ronald) Kueter, and Roger “Shiney” (Shirley) Scholtes.
A memorial fund has been established in Gerald’s memory.
