Gerald Richard Skaggs, aged 83, departed this life on June 1, 2024, and was called to his eternal resting place. He was surrounded by his loving family at Norton Pavilion Hospital, at the time of his passing.
Born on the 10th of March in the year 1941, Jerry was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and uncle. His life will forever be treasured in the lives of his devoted wife of 58 years, Carrie Skaggs; his daughters, Leigh Skaggs, and Lesli Garland (Todd); his beloved granddaughter, Elizabeth Cunningham (Alex Klingsmith); his adored great-grandsons, Kennith Cunningham, and Damian Klingsmith; his dear sister, Patricia Saylor and uncle to; Tom Williams (Reisa), Jeff Williams (Lola), Ronnie Williams (Peggy), Jennifer Gellhaus, David Potter (Libby) and Steven Potter. He has now rejoined his dearly departed mother, Erman Basham Houchin; his father, Warner A. Skaggs; and his stepmother, Sarah J. Skaggs.
Jerry was a pillar of the community, recognized for his dedication to education as a revered teacher, as a coach in baseball, and as an esteemed textbook salesperson. His academic achievements were highlighted by a master's in business administration obtained from Western Kentucky University.
An enthusiast of the outdoors, Jerry delighted in the simple pleasures of fishing and golfing. He held the honor of being a founding member of the Delta Kappa Nu Fraternity at Western Kentucky University, a testament to his lifelong commitment to brotherhood and scholarship. As a respected 32° Mason and Shriner, Jerry's generous spirit and service to others left an indelible mark within the community.
Per Jerry's Request, there will not be a service. In recognition of Jerry's benevolent nature, the family kindly requests that charitable donations be made to a cause dear to your heart in his memory.
Jerry's gentle soul and enduring kindness will be held in loving remembrance by all those whose lives he touched. May he rest in peace.
