Gerald Snyder Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by LaVigne Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Jan. 12, 2026.
Gerald "Jerry" Peter Snyder died suddenly on January 7, 2026 from a cardiac arrest. Jerry was determined to care for his home, always. A true do-it-yourself gentleman, who always had everything in order.
Jerry was born in Burlington, VT on February 16, 1942 to Lester W. and Della M. (Lapointe) Snyder; growing up in the Old North End. He went to Ecole Nazareth School and graduated from Burlington High School in 1961. Jerry was a United States Navy Veteran and served aboard the USS Enterprise CVA(N)-65, an aircraft carrier. He was so proud to be a plank owner and part of the original crew for the first nuclear powered carrier and largest ship in the world when commissioned. After Jerry was honorably discharged he began his 42-year career with Lane Press as a dedicated employee retiring in 2005.
Jerry married the love of his life, Rita A. Forcier on May 29, 1965 at Christ the King Church. They built a beautiful and loving family together. His family was the pride and joy of his life. He leaves behind Rita and their daughters, Cheryl Mitchell (Kevin – predeceased) and Shelly Corley (Tim); grandchildren Ashley Ringuette (Nick – predeceased), Keegan Mitchell (Mariah), Colton and Kylie Corley; great-grandchildren Lily and Finley Ringuette and Lola Mitchell. He leaves behind many other dear family and friends. Jerry is also predeceased by his brother Rodney Snyder.
Jerry was an avid golfer and fitness enthusiast, holding memberships at Cedar Knoll Country Club and The EDGE Sports & Fitness. He also enjoyed being a member of the Eagles Club and The USS Enterprise Association. Jerry had a heart of gold and his family and friends meant the world to him. He showed such pride and joy, always eager to spend time with his girls and their families. Jerry always had a way with his words, often writing or reciting a speech on his birthday or the holidays. He was kind and intelligent, always enjoying his daily crossword puzzle and word scramble. Jerry was a goofy comedian, who often found himself caught up in some sort of mischief. Truly a big kid at heart. He was a beautiful historian; his basement a sanctuary, showing off his life through pictures and memorabilia.
Though our hearts are heavy we hold every bit of his love, laughter and memory close. We only imagine that he went out singing, "Now, you won't see no sad and teary eyes. When I get my wings and it's my time to fly. Call my friends and tell 'em there's a party, come on by. Now just roll me up and smoke me when I die." – Willie Nelson
Details for a future celebration of life will be shared when available.
