Gerald Lawrence Spangenburg, 83, of Byron, Georgia, passed away on September 6, 2025. Born on August 9, 1942, in Binghamton, New York, Gerald lived a life marked by service, patriotism, and deep devotion to his family and faith.

A proud veteran of the United States Air Force and a Vietnam War veteran, Gerald continued his dedication to public service as a law enforcement officer in Macon and Warner Robins. He also spent time as a truck driver, a career he enjoyed and often reminisced about with pride.

Gerald was a true patriot who loved his country deeply. He found joy in watching the news, attending church, and reading his Bible, drawing strength and wisdom from his faith. Known for his storytelling, Gerald loved sharing memories from his time in the military and on the police force—stories that reflected his courage, humor, and sense of duty.

He cherished his family and quiet moments spent with his beloved dog, Gizmo. Family was everything to Gerald, and he will be remembered as a devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend who always put his loved ones first. His legacy of service, love, and faith lives on in the hearts of all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his son, Allen Spangenburg; parents, Larry and Doris Spangenburg and Gladys Webber; brother, Joel Spangenburg, sister-in-law, Linda Spangenburg

His memory will forever be treasured by his adoring wife, Harriet Spangenburg; children, Mike Spangenburg (Carrie), Ashley Spangenburg (Jessie), Tim Spangenburg (Tina), Laurie Barberich (Jeff), Cynthia Morton (Randy), Catherine Parker, Gina Taylor (George) and Lindsey Spivey; siblings, Noel Spangenburg, Joy Robinsky (John), Shael Spangenburg, Jim Sweat (Rose-Marie), and sister in law, Terri Spangenburg.

Visitation with Gerald’s family will be Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home with services following in the chapel. After the service, Gerald will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
