Gerald "Jerry" Lee Swain Sr., 85, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away peacefully on Monday October 27th surrounded by his loving family. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Jerry lived a full and devoted life marked by hard work, love, and dedication to those closest to him.
Jerry was preceded in death by his first wife Eddie Mae, the mother of his children. He is survived by his beloved wife, Violet Swain and her children Richard "Benny" Rumley and Jan Hubbard; his daughter, Janie Peacock and her husband Johnny; and his sons, Fred Swain and his wife Melissa, and Gerald Lee Swain Jr. and his wife Darcy. He was a proud grandfather to Jenna Pollard, her husband Steven and their daughter Brett, Kristen Cole, her husband Brandon and their children Xander and Aries, Tyler Peacock, and Ashley Swain, all of whom brought him great joy and pride.
A man of integrity and determination, Jerry retired from Johnson Controls after a long and dedicated career. Outside of work, he was happiest in the outdoors - hunting, fishing, and tinkering with whatever caught his interest. To his family, he was more than a husband, father, and grandfather - he was a role model, a source of strength, and the kindest presence in their lives.
Jerry was drafted to the United States Army on January 21, 1959 where he proudly served until being honorably discharged on January 20, 1965.
Jerry will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his gentle spirit, unwavering love, and the many happy memories he created with family and friends.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Salem Funeral & Cremation Service, 120 S Main St W-S, NC 27101. Condolences may be shared online at www.salemfh.com.
