Gerald Vanzyl Obituary
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Hope Reformed Church in Montevideo with Pastor Tony De La Rosa officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Hope Reformed Church in Montevideo.
Gerald VanZyl was born on March 30, 1944, in Sheldon, Iowa, to Herman and Marie (Noteboom) VanZyl. Gerald was united in marriage to Carol Jean Gilbertson on July 13, 1963, at Jevnaker Church in rural Montevideo. He worked at various jobs when first married such as gas station manager, drove semi, parts man for mobile home plant, and parts man for service dept in Alexandria. In 1972 he and Carol moved on his family farm where he worked until his retirement. Through the years, he enjoyed many hobbies, from playing cards to snowmobile trips with his family. His greatest passions were farming and his family. Gerald was very proud of his family and their faith. He will be greatly missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Kim (Russ) Marcus, Tricia (Rich) Moen, and Doug (Danielle) VanZyl; grandchildren, Jessica (fiancé Casey Barber) Marcus, Zachary (Allison) Marcus, Joshua (Maya) Marcus, Benjamin (fiancé Lauren Price) Marcus, Parker (Alayna) VanZyl, Lani (Nate) Parker, Liza VanZyl, Tyler Moen, and Cassidy Moen; great grandchildren, Madelyn VanZyl, Boone VanZyl, Audrey Marcus, Ava Marcus, and Aletta Barber; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Herman and Marie VanZyl.
