Gray – Geralda “Gerry” Whitzell, 91, passed away Tuesday March 17th 2026 at the home of her daughter & caretaker, Diana Spofford. She was born in Westbrook, Maine, the daughter of Jeanne Gouzie Fraser. She graduated from Cathedral High School. Gerry was a volunteer at St. Hyacinth’s church events and could always be counted on to make some wonderful desserts. She was a stay-at-home mom who raised 5 children and was a doting grandmother to her many grandchildren.
Gerry is predeceased by her husband of 61 years, George Nelson Whitzell, and her brother Joseph Eugene Goozie.
She is survived by her son Alfred Whitzell and wife Lynne of Clyde, N.C.; daughter Patricia Lamontagne and husband Roger of Aiken, S.C.; daughter Carol Nelson of Aiken, S.C.; daughter Diana Spofford of Gray, Maine; and son Michael Whitzell and wife Trisha of Las Vegas, N.V.; as well as 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
We would like to thank Michael Spofford for his support and assistance to our mom over the years since our dad’s passing.
We also want to thank the wonderful CNAs, nurses, social worker and Chaplain from Beacon Hospice who were there to help mom and Diana these last six months.
