GERALDINE "JERRY" ANN BOWLES
1936 - 2008
Geraldine "Jerry" Ann Bowles was born February 29, 1936 in Hoxie, Kansas and passed away from natural causes at the age of 72, on her birthday, February 29, 2008 in Santa Maria, CA. At the time of her passing, Jerry was still employed as a Bookkeeper in Santa Maria.
Jerry was born and raised in Kansas, graduating from Hill City High School in 1954. In 1958, she married Bernard "Bud" Bowles, also from Kansas. During their time in Kansas Jerry gave birth to her son and daughter, Mark and Lori. In 1969 they packed up their two children and headed west following Bud to a new job in Santa Maria. Family was everything to Jerry. She cherished time spent with family and good friends. She not only had her own two children calling her mom, but all their friends thought of her as mom, and referred to her as "mom" as well. Becoming a grandmother was one of the best things that happened to her. She was not only "Grandma Jerry" to her own grandkids, but to all children. She was adored by everyone who knew her.
Although Jerry enjoyed the central coast and all that it had to offer, she also loved going back to Kansas and visiting family and friends. She never missed the opportunity to attend reunions as it was another means of visiting with her countless friends and beloved family members. For decades, Jerry was an extremely loyal Lakers fan and made a point to try and watch each and every game. She knew more facts about the Lakers than most others. Neighbors came to realize that when there were "hoots and hollers" coming from her house she was just having fun watching the Lakers play.
Jerry is survived by her son, Mark Bowles of Clovis, CA and daughter, Lori Cordova of Santa Maria, CA. Additional survivors include: Leslie Bowles, daughter-in-law; Dan Cordova, son-in-law; and grandchildren: Kristopher Bowles, Meghann Rhodes, Kendra Cordova, Amber Cordova, Christian Bowles and Kyler Bowles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud; Parents, Leverett and Hazel Gross; Brother, Bob Gross and Sister, Betty Burdick.
Jerry was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter and sister who brought joy to all who knew her. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to experience her generous heart, humor and unconditional love. Wonderful memories of her will be forever with us all.
A Memorial Service will be held in her honor at 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 8th at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 4380 Orcutt Road, Santa Maria, CA. Pastor Greg Kintzi will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jerry's memory can be made to the American Heart Association, 212 W. Figueroa St., Santa Barbara, CA 93101.

Dear Lori,
I wanted to tell you that you are in my thoughts and prayers, you have faced what we are now all facing, my heart goes out to you and your family, it has been several years since we have had contact, but I wanted to let you know that you have never been far from my thoughts! Dear Lori and Mark:

I was heartbroken to hear of your mother's death. Your mom was a loving and caring friend for many years. I cherish the memories I have of her during my time at the mobile home park. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. I was going to buy her a belated birthday card, but read the obits on line and it hit me like a brick. I will NEVER EVER FORGET Jerry's laugh. It was contageous and you could not help feeling happy when around Jerry.
