Geraldine Earman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kyger Funeral Home - Harrisonburg on Sep. 22, 2025.
Geraldine "Gerry" (Walker) Earman, 90, of Harrisonburg, Virginia passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, September 20, 2025, with loved ones by her side.

Born in Roanoke, VA, Gerry was the daughter of the late Aldridge G. Walker and Annie "Porta" English Walker. She earned her bachelor's degree in 1956 and her master's degree in 1960 from Madison College (now James Madison University). Gerry devoted her career to teaching first grade in Fairfax County and Prince William County, VA, where she inspired generations of children over dozens of years before her retirement.

Gerry was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, John Earman, with whom she built a life rich in love and full of memories that will be treasured by their family for years to come. Together they created a tradition of summer vacations that brought their ever-growing family together under one roof. These joyful gatherings were filled with laughter and love, so much so that Gerry always brought a notebook to record the funny quotes and fond memories.

Gerry is survived by her children: Steven Earman (Lisa Spence), Lynn Slade (David), and Matthew Earman (Claudia Husak). She was the cherished Gramma to Eric Slade (Tara), Emily Slade (Patrick Filanowski), Kelly Earman (Alex Fish), Nick Earman, and Laura Earman; and beloved GG (Great Gramma) to Logan Filanowski. She also lovingly welcomed Oliver, Julian, Gabriel, Jonathan, Taylor, Joey, Camille, Mason, Braelyn, Kyle, Christine, Scarlett, Easton, and Brixton into her extended family circle.

Gerry had a sharp mind and love of games and crosswords, with a jigsaw puzzle always on her table and frequent afternoons of Bridge with friends. She was a devoted JMU Dukes fan, cheering on her alma mater with pride. She also treasured nightly dinners with her Sunnyside Highlands dinner crew, Carole, Rita, and Dave, whose friendship brought her great joy.

Above all, Gerry will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, Gramma, and GG. Her caring spirit and steadfast devotion to her family and friends shaped the lives of all who knew her.

In keeping with her lifelong commitment to education, memorial gifts may be made to James Madison University General Scholarship Fund, at https://www.jmu.edu/give/where-to-give/index.shtml

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no formal service. An informal gathering to celebrate Gerry will be held at from 10: on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Sunnyside Retirement Community in Harrisonburg, VA, Highlands Building, Allegheny Room.

Came to know Gerry only recently, but thoroughly enjoyed her company as we laughed together every Friday afternoon over a game of Bridge along with her good friend Carol Delaney and my husband Baard. She was a formidable opponent but a great partner! I will miss her!
