In Loving Memory of Geraldine "Gerri" Hughes

January 14, 1941 – September 19, 2025

Geraldine (nee Sawczyk) Hughes "Gerri" at 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Bridesburg PA, Gerri was raised in Philadelphia, graduated from Saint Hubert High School for Girls, and was a longtime resident of Marlton NJ. Gerri was an avid Philadelphia sports fan, had season tickets for the Flyers, and never missed a televised Phillies or Eagles game. Most of all, the "Broad Street Bullies" held a special place in her heart. She celebrated back-to-back Stanley cup championships with them. Loving the wild and crazy celebrations that followed in the streets of South Philly, Gerri took a special joy in sharing the tradition of banging pots and pans with her children when the Flyers or any Philadelphia team won a championship.

Gerri had a sweet tooth and a special place in her heart for Stock's Bakery's iced pound cake. No family gathering was complete without one, and she often made special trips from Marlton back to Philly just to pick up one or several.

From the Wildwood boardwalk, to the beaches of Ocean City, to the slot machines of Atlantic City, she treasured the Jersey shore where she created countless family memories.

Known for her warmth, generosity, and kindness, Gerri dedicated her life to helping others, especially caring for ill family members and friends. She gave her time and heart freely to those in need. Also, Gerri had an unconditional love for all of the family pets spoiling them with treats and toys.

Gerri retired from DeMasi Middle School with the Evesham School District, where she found great satisfaction working with students and forming lifelong friendships with her colleagues.

Her last few years were spent residing at Rolling Hills in Cinnaminson where neighbors turned into the best of friends - the running joke was that she lived in a college dorm because she was always having fun with her "dormmates."

Gerri was predeceased by her parents Walter and Virginia Sawczyk and her beloved husband, Alvin "Chip" Hughes, with whom she shared forty years of marriage. As an only child, Gerri often expressed how grateful she was to have her two cousins, Margaret Hughes and Mary Arnold (both deceased), whom she considered to be her sisters. She leaves behind her devoted children: Christopher (Shellie) Hughes, Michelle (Paul) Wright, and Mark Hughes, as well as her beloved grandchildren: Danielle and Matthew Trommelen, and Ryan and Brooke Hughes, and her two step grandchildren: Rebecca (Spencer) Mora, Paul Jr. (Liz) Wright and two step great grandchildren: Weston Mora and Isla Wright.

Memorial service for Gerri will be held privately per her wishes.
