Obituary published on Legacy.com by D'Bari Funeral Home - Bronx on Oct. 1, 2025.
Geraldine Tabron nee Powell was born in Littleton North Caroling, to Nick Powell and Carrie Powell nee Alston on August 6, 1939. She came into the world with her twin soul James Powell. They were the youngest of ten siblings. Sadly her twin soul, James, would be the first to precede her and all his siblings much too soon. Throughout the years, the remainder of her siblings would precede her also, her brothers Samuel, Herbert, Elbert, her sisters Estelle, Molly, Maggie, Myrtis & Agnas. Geraldine would depart on her journey to rest in God's care on August 31, 2025. Geraldine was raised and spent her early years in Litleton, North Carolina graduating from Mclvey High School around 1957. She began playing the piano at the very young age of 5 years old. Most certainly she was a gifted prodigy. She proudly boasted that she had played the piano at her high school graduation ceremony. She also enjoyed playing for churches and at various events. It was her absolute favorite pastime and accomplishment. She enjoyed retelling stories of those memories the most. Shortly after her high school graduation, she met and married the man she would love for life James Simeon Tabron. They married young and had four children. Soon after marriage, James and Geraldine would move to Baltimore, MD where their three oldest children were born, Phyllis Diane, James Curtis, and Carlton Wendell. They would finally settle in
the Bronx, New York where their youngest son Gregory Jervae was born. Through this marriage she became a sister-in-law to Daniel, Shelton, Edgar, Calvin, the only "sister" Uzella Tabron /Williams and their youngest brother Joe. Her husband James preceded her on life's journey on November 6, 1986. Joe and Uzella Tabron/ Williams remain of the family lineage along with their Aunt Llilly Rice Tabron who was married to Uncle Jesse Tabron fulfilling the legacy of the next generation of nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family. Geraldine and Uzella would go on to enjoy a lifetime of closeness and friendship and she would refer to Uzella as her favorite "sister" in law. Through the marriage to James older brother Daniel Tabron she would also acquire another lineage, she was a revered sister, an Aunt to many nieces, nephews, and other sister-in-law with a very similar name, Geraline Tabron. Of the Powel family's extended family. She was particularly close to her older siste Estlle Mitchell/Powell daughters Faye Mitchell/Jenkins and Christine Mitchell/Alston who she thought more as litle sisters since they were very close in age and their youngest sister Shirley Mitchell/Cooper spent some summers in New York with Phyllis when they were young girls.
Geraldine went on to have a wonderful, full life raising her ever growing family in her established home of New York for over 60 years. Becoming a grandma, great grandma and then a great great grandma. She also enjoyea fond friendships with her neighbors spanning those 60 years especially with her best friends Ms. Bluejay Peterson and Ms. Ruby Bradley. Throughout her lifetime, she would continue to enjoy playing her piano for her children, grandchildren and great grands on birthdays, holidays and on many occasions. Just for pure meditation and relaxation she would play spiritual gospel songs. Following such a fullifetime, she passed away peacefully in sleep shortly after her 86th birthday.
