Gerry Tate, 91, of Groves passed away Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Harbor Hospice.
She was born July 13, 1932, in Jennings, Louisiana to the late Lee Roy Bertrand and the late Elia Bertrand Love. Gerry is also preceded in death by her husband, James H. Tate.
Gerry was a lifelong resident of Groves and a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School in 1950. She was involved in Round and Square Dance clubs, a bowling league, antique car club, and several choir clubs. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Port Arthur. As a homemaker, Gerry proudly was active in her two sons’ activities. She was most known for making her double batch of chocolate chip cookies once or twice a week when her boys were young. The Tate family traveled throughout the US pulling their StarCraft camper several summers. She and her husband, Jim, built a camp at 6 Mile Marina at Toledo Bend.
She is survived by her two sons, Arthur Tate (Paulette) of Colleyville and Donald Tate (Dene) of Port Arthur; her grandchildren, Angela Kutac (Dennis), Kristen Tate, Alexandra Tate, Jordon Tate (Gisell) and Elliott Tate (Holly), her great-grandchildren, Andrew, Madeleine, Savannah, Ethan, Landon, Daxton, and Iris; her brothers, Isaac Bertrand of Groves, and Paul Bertrand (Judy) of Dunwoody, Georgia and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A visitation for family and friends will begin at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Melancon/Levingston Funeral Home in Groves. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Reverand Drew McClellan officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
