Geraldine F. Van Tiem

Geraldine Therese Fogleman Van Tiem passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 25, 2024, in Shreveport, Louisiana. A Mass of Christian Burial honoring her life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans, 939 Jordan Street, Shreveport, Louisiana. A visitation will be held prior to the mass at 10:00 a.m. at the cathedral. Interment will immediately follow the service in Forest Park Cemetery on St. Vincent Avenue.
She was born December 14, 1928, in Opelousas, Louisiana. In 1943 the family moved to Shreveport. She graduated from schools here and went to work at Barksdale AFB in 1948 where she met and married the love of her life, Dick Van Tiem, on February 26, 1949.
Geri was active in her church for many years singing in the choir and serving as a lector of the Word of God. She also sang in the Shreveport Symphony Chorale and the St. Cecelia Choral Society. She will be remembered for her many stage performances at the Marjorie Lyons Playhouse and Shreveport Little Theatre. She was involved in over 26 theatrical productions including the musicals, "Sound of Music", "Cabaret", "Little Night Music", and plays, "Steel Magnolias", "Ladies First", "House of Bernada Alba", and "Perfect Ganesh".
She was a loving wife and mother who always tried to be there for her husband and children with non-judgmental love and understanding.
Geri is survived by her husband of 75 years, Richard "Dick" Van Tiem; sons, Michael Van Tiem and David Van Tiem; daughter, Julia Van Tiem Martin; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her youngest son, Brian Van Tiem.
