Obituary of Gerard J. Sontag
Gerard "Gerry" Sontag passed away in Joliet, Illinois on Friday August 30, 2024 on his own terms after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 64, with his brother Marc by his side.
Gerry was born to and was preceded in death by Joseph Henry and Elise Josephine (Moyano) Sontag. After graduating from Joliet West High School, Gerry went on to become an excellent diesel and small engine mechanic and lived his life to the fullest. He enjoyed motorcycles, race cars, airplanes, and remote controlled versions of all of the above. He had a passion for fishing and taking long hikes and bike rides through natural landscapes. Gerry loved desserts of all kinds, but had a special affinity for chocolate, and would not eat anything green.
Gerry was also preceded in death by a nephew, Jason Sontag, a niece, Sherri Lynn Teague, and a great nephew Marky Holt.
He is survived by his brothers, Jacques (Donna), Pierre (Phyllis), Marc (Rose), and Alan and his sisters Patti (Roy), as well as numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and friends who will continue to honor his memory by living their lives to the fullest.
A memorial gathering for Gerry Sontag will be Friday September 6, 2024 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 1201 W. US Rt 6 Morris. A prayer service will conclude the evening beginning at 6 p.m.
