Ummy was born on June 1, 1954, in Two Rivers, son of the late Russel and Salome (Bolle) Walesh. He grew up in Two Rivers and graduated from Holy Redeemer Catholic Grade School and was a 1972 graduate of Two Rivers Washington High School. In his early years, Gerry worked for Eggers Industries and was a leader in their local trade union. He later became a CNA, working in assisted living facilities and providing in-home care. Ummy enjoyed sports and was a gifted athlete in volleyball, football and softball. He was a proud member of T.R.Tech.
Survivors include his three sons and their wives: Jason (Trisha) Walesh, Oceanside, CA, Brian (Ann) Walesh, Waldo, Kevin (Nicole) Walesh, Manitowoc; four grandchildren: Katrina Walesh, Matthew Walesh, Lauren Walesh, Peter Walesh; Gerry's eleven siblings: Barb Kussman, Two Rivers, Rick (Sue) Walesh, Forest Junction, Rusty (Dianne) Walesh, Two Rivers, Wendy (Mike) Chizek, Two Rivers, Steve (Julie) Walesh, Two Rivers, Karl (Debbie) Walesh, Two Rivers, Fran (Todd) Schweigert, Eagle River, Blaine Walesh, Two Rivers, Lance (Patsy) Walesh, Two Rivers, Phil (Jody) Walesh, Two Rivers, Bobby (Cathy) Walesh, Two Rivers, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, and dear friend Paul also survives. He was preceded in death by his parents Russel and Salome Walesh; one infant brother: Greg Walesh; one sister and two brothers-in-law: Michelle (Carl) Wertz, Paul Kussman; one sister-in-law: Kris Walesh.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 12, 2024, at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, 3201 Mishicot Rd, Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. David Pleier with cremation to follow at the All-Care Cremation Center and burial at a later date in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Monday from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM.
