Gerardo Reyes Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Northlake Funeral Home on Dec. 18, 2025.
Gerardo de Jesus Reyes

Loving husband to Susana and father to Christian, Chloe, and Eva Luna, joined the Lord on Sunday, December 14, 2025. "Gerry" was born on October 3, 1963 in Manila, Philippines, the second of three sons to Bernardo and Dolores Reyes.

The family moved around the country several times before settling in Palos Hills, IL where Gerry excelled at band and wrestling in high school. He attended Loyola University where he earned a spot on the university's track team, despite not having participated in the sport prior to that. After college he earned his law degree at Illinois Institute of Chicago's Kent College of Law and landed his first job as an attorney with the City of Chicago's Department of Water. It was then that Gerry's lifelong passion for politics was ignited. Those years spent working on various political campaigns allowed him to turn his passion into a successful career as a policy advocate. Outside of work, he was an expert hunter, avid golfer, and earned a black belt in jiu jitsu. Recently, he moved with his family to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico where he lived a wonderful life in the sun, developed a renewed Catholic faith, and became an integral part of the expat community there. Through all those years, activities, and places there was one common theme – he made deep connections with and brought unending joy to everyone around him.

The love Gerry shared with everyone was eclipsed by his love of family. Fatherhood first found him in the early 1990s with Christian and Chloe, and he relished the role and all the responsibilities that came with it. After finding love again many years later, he then became a doting father to Eva Luna. He viewed his children as his legacy and instilled a strong sense of pride and devotion to family in them. Family reunions were legendary and somehow, despite all of the big personalities, he was always at the center of it all with his countless stories and horrible jokes.

Gerry is survived by his wife Susana, children Christian, Chloe, and Eva Luna, mother Dolores, and brothers – Alex (Miki Jishage) of New York, NY and John (Annette) of Ann Arbor, MI. He was the uncle to Adam, Emilia, Agnes, Isabella, and Berkeley.

A Gofundme has been established to support Eva Luna.

Visitation for Gerardo will be Monday, December 22, 2025 from 9:30 a.m. at St. John Cantius Church, 825 N. Carpenter Street, Chicago Illinois 60642 until time of Funeral Mass 10:30 a.m.. Committal Service with Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Evergreen Park.

Gerry will be deeply missed by many. I met him on the mats when I started Jiu Jitsu in 2015 and he was one of my favorite people to see at the gym and in general. I'm grateful for the opportunity of meeting him and calling him a friend. My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.
