Gertraut Lippert, age 94, passed away on May 24, 2025, at the residence of her daughter and son-in-law in Waterloo, Illinois. She was born in Potsdam, Germany on April 11, 1931.
Gertraut was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, James Lippert.
James and Gertraut met while James was serving his country while in the Army in Berlin, Germany during the historic Berlin Airlift after WWII. She immigrated to the United States in 1952 and lived in St. Louis, Missouri for many years before moving to East St. Louis, Illinois. She happily became a citizen of our great country in May of 1961.
She enjoyed crocheting afghanis for each of her children, her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She also crocheted huggable stuffed animals for her great great-grandchild. She spent many hours in her final years rewatching her favorite old TV shows, and shopping at secondhand stores.
Gertraut is survived by 2 daughters, Jeanette Power and son-in-law Bob of Queen Creek, Arizona, Christine Smith and her husband, Ron of Waterloo, Illinois, a son James and daughter in law, Cindy of High Ridge, Missouri, her 5 grandchildren, her 3 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren and various nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all.
Her memorial service will be private. Her interment will be by the side of her husband at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetary in St. Louis, Missouri.
