Gertrude Durfee Obituary

Gertrude "Trudy" Durfee 10/31/1930 - 1/16/2025 died in Madison, WI at age 94. She earned a degree in Physics from Radcliffe, where she met David Durfee at a mixer for the Radcliffe Choral Society and Harvard Glee Club. They married days after her graduation, and sang together for the rest of their lives.

She worked at MIT Lincoln Labs before turning her keen intellect to raising her children and managing a household, largely in Pleasantville, NY. On her watch, every math or science homework question was thoroughly understood and answered, and every penny of the family budget was accounted for. As her children got older, she exercised her love of numbers working at an insurance agency.

After retirement, she and David moved to the Bennington, VT area, where Trudy was active in her church and various volunteer organizations. She was often tapped on to help with bookkeeping. The couple traveled to all 50 states and many foreign lands, and delighted in hiking in the Green, Taconic, and Adirondack Mountains.

Trudy's beloved husband of over 72 years preceded her in death by exactly 2 months. She is survived by her 4 children Suzanne Farrington (David), Edmund (Mary), Kenneth (Ingrid) and Rachel (Peter Tan), 8 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
