Gertrude "Bennett" Gregory

GERTRUDE BENNETT GREGORY, 86, of Newton Grove, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026. Born in 1939 in Sampson County, Norh Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Lessie Luedell Jackson Bennett and John Henry Bennett.

On October 31, 1954, she married Patrick Henry Gregory in Dillon, South Carolina. He preceded her in death.

Gertrude was a devoted mother and homemaker who dedicated her life to caring for her family. She was deeply involved in her faith community and volunteered at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Her church was an important part of her life and a place where she shared her kindness and faith with others.

She had many creative talents and enjoyed painting, pottery, and gardening. She was also known as a wonderful cook and had a beautiful singing voice. A hardworking woman with a strong spirit, she loved her church, her garden, and most of all her family.

Gertrude is survived by her children, Dixie Hall, Kim Gregory, Chris Gregory, and Charlotte Mitchell and husband Jeff Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her son, Patrick Gregory Jr., and daughter, Baby Gertrude.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Wendy Forbis, Travis Strickland, Rachel Doyle and husband Ash Doyle, Carla Hall Taylor, Mandy May and husband Michael May, John Luke Mitchell and Nathan Zeager, Joseph Gregory, Sarah Gregory, and Sam Mitchell, as well as her great-grandsons, Dylan Hall, Brett Forbis, Jesse Taylor, and Michael May.

She is also survived by her siblings, sister Sarah Pope (Bunny) and her late husband Patrick Pope, sister Joyce Jones and her late husband Elvin Jones, brother John Jr. Bennett and his late wives Brenda Bennett and Judy Bennett, brother Bobby Bennett and his late wife Helen Bennett, and brother James Bennett and his late wife Jean Bennett. She was preceded in death by her brother Billy Bennett and his wife Judy Bennett.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton Grove, North Carolina, on Friday, March 13, 2026 at 11:00 a.m., with burial to follow at the church cemetery.

Gertrude will be remembered for her strong work ethic, her creative spirit, her faith, and the love she shared with her family and friends.
