Gertrude H. Striny
July 14 1932 – June 24, 2024
Getrude (Trudy) Striny, age 91, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Bridgeway Rehabilitation Center in Bridgewater NJ. Trudy was born in 1932 in Paterson, NJ to parents Charlotte Dupper and Karl Niethe. After residing in the U.S. for a number of years, the family decided to return back home to Germany. When the war broke out, Trudy and her two younger brothers fled to the U.S. and resided with relatives until they could be reunited with their parents.
Trudy had a true love for her German heritage and at a young age she joined the Schwabischer Sangerbund choir. She remained an active member for 65 years and held a number of positions and offices.
Trudy married Walter Hoefele in 1955 and was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. The two started their lives and a family together adopting their two children Peter and Janet. Walter passed away in 1975 from heart complications. After many years, Trudy married Kurt Striny in 1986 and they enjoyed traveling, sailing and family gatherings.
Trudy was predeceased by her brother Klaus Niethe who died as an infant in Germany, her husband Kurt Striny and her brother Bruno Niethe.
Trudy is survived by her son Peter (Kelly) Hoefele of Hillsborough NJ; daughter Janet (Jim) Eisenhard of Pennsylvania; brother Karl Niethe of Wayne, NJ; sister in-law Martha Niethe of Cranford, NJ and her three step-daughter's Kathy (Kieth) Diehl, Rosemary Nonemaker, and Lori (Mike) Thees; along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Trudy will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held in late July at St. Joseph's Catholic Church Hillsborough NJ.

Trudy was a part of my whole life- she was my Godmother long before she became my stepmother! Trudy was "old school German", like my parents were, and she brought much happiness back into Dad's life. They had many happy times and adventures together, for which I am very grateful. Our families were a lot to add to her life, but she opened her arms to us all, we had many memorable holidays at Omi and Opa's! Thanks for sharing her, Peter and Janet. We share the sadness of her loss.
