Gideon was born on December 19, 1917, in McIntosh County to John C. and Magdalena (Goebel) Boschee. He was the eldest of 11 children. He attended rural school, where he only spoke German and his teacher only spoke English, but by the time he graduated from 8th grade he was fluent in English, too. He was united in marriage to Lillian Louise Koepplin June 16, 1940, on the family farm, which remains in the Boschee family today. During their married life they made their home in Jamestown, Lehr, and Wishek, but it was on the homestead near Lehr where they began to raise a family and to farm.
Gideon was a quiet, kind, and gentle man. Always putting others before himself, he was a great listener and had a generous word for all. Easy going, but hard working, Gideon farmed until he was 82, when he and Lillian retired and moved to Wishek. Always devout in his faith, he helped build Grace Lutheran Church in Lehr, ND. Proud of all his children, he expressed his love best by lots of hand holding, card playing and letting them be who they would be.
Gideon preferred to listen more than he spoke but quipped with some unexpected funny one-liners. He read up to three newspapers a day and was a lifelong pinochle player, which we credit for helping keep his mind sharp and his memory rivaling those of his adult children. When age and body began to limit his mobility, Gideon still held on to driving as long as possible; he loved cruising both town and country, checking out the crops and community. He enjoyed time with his friends, meals at the Wishek Senior Center, and visits from family near and far. While travel was once an interest, Gideon liked "Wishek best of all." He took great pride in his community and church living his 107 years within 84 miles of where he was born. Gideon was much loved, much cherished, and will be much missed as a father, sibling, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great grandfather.
Gideon is survived by sons Cleo (Joan) Boschee of
Wishek, ND, Richard (Cheryl) Boschee of Lehr, ND, and James (Pat) Boschee of Calabasas, CA, and by daughter Nancy Rogauskas (Hank Sowerwine) of Longview, WA; sibling Alleen (Boschee) Buetow of Jamestown, ND; sister-in-law Audrey Boschee of
Wishek, ND; nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and ten great-great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife Lillian Louise (Koepplin) in 2009; parents John C. and Magdalena (Goebel) Boschee; brothers Eddie, Ruben, Albert, and Marvin; sisters Irene, Martha, Edna, Alma, and Lorraine.
The family greatly appreciates the care and friendship provided by George Just and Wishek Living Center.
