I´ll always remember Dr. Custer´s office was unlike any other psychiatrist I´d been to. Full of guitars and stacks of books, and he would often be wearing no shoes (only socks) during sessions. He helped me through one of the most difficult times of my life and I will always remember him. Amazing guy, amazing doctor. A gift from God.

Was amazing and helped me through so much. So sad to have him gone but know he is with God watching over all his patients.

Dr. Custer is so special to me and my two children. For 25 years, he helped the three of us. We will dearly miss him.

I know without a shadow of a doubt that Dr. Custer touched so many lives with his wisdom, love, kindness and compassion. He always had a big smile and wonderful sense of humor. I am so honored to have had him in my life I will miss him greatly.

I remember meeting Gil as a child/adolesent psychiatrist colleague first but very quickly he became a friend happy to share his warm sense of humor as well as welcome myself and my family to Austin over forty
years ago.
Gil shared interests like biking on the veloway in South Austin with my husband, John Hertenberger.
Our children got together with each other at summer TSCAP meetings for decades as well as
our spouses.
It was at such a TSCAP meeting last summer that I heard that Gil had terminal colon cancer. Fortunately, we were able to get together with Gil and his wife Sylvia at our home last fall. I had several more phone calls with Gil on his "good weeks" when his spirits were brighter as well as his sense of humor although treatment of his cancer had stopped months before.
Sadly . the last time I spoke to Gil was in 12/2022.
