Trevino Funeral Home - Corpus ChristiGilbert H. Guerrero, born on July 16, 1949, in Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away on December 3, 2025. Gilbert lived a life characterized by quiet strength and generosity, leaving an indelible mark on those who knew him.
A dedicated Navy veteran, Gilbert served his country with honor and received several medals, including the First Good Conduct Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for Korea, the Vietnam Service Medal with four bronze stars, and the National Defense Service Medal. His commitment to service did not end with his military duties; Gilbert continued giving back to his community through the American Legion, where he served as Commander for two years, and also dedicated his time as a Boy Scout leader. He later worked as a Maintenance Supervisor at Cimarron Nursing Home for approximately ten years, where he was known for his dependability and big-hearted nature.
Gilbert's educational journey began at Hospital Corps School in San Diego, California, from June to September 1970, where he laid the foundation for a career devoted to service and care. His quiet demeanor and private life belied the tremendous love he held for his family. He was a devoted husband to Esther Guerrero, with whom he shared 32 years of marriage. Together, they nurtured a family that includes his children Joe Angel, Melissa, Melinda, and Michelle. He took immense joy in being a grandfather to Samantha, Alex, Alissa, Greg, Achilleas, Celeste, Frankie, Jordan, and Matthew, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
Gilbert cherished his extended family, which includes nieces and nephews Jose, Angelica, Jeremy, and Amber, and remained close to his siblings Richard Guerrero, Barbara J. Bueno, and Celia "Sally" Guerrero. He was predeceased by his parents, Isabel T. Guerrero and Celia H. Guerrero, and his brother, Henry E. Guerrero, whose memories he carried with him throughout his life.
One of Gilbert’s greatest joys was caring for his dogs. He deeply loved his first two companions, Bear and Dagget, who predeceased him and held a lasting place in his heart. He enjoyed walking them, bathing them, feeding them, and taking them to the beach—simple moments that brought him peace and happiness. Gilbert leaves behind his beloved beagle Blu, who remained faithfully by his side and brought him comfort and joy in his later years.
Outside of work and family, Gilbert was passionate about his interests. He was a loyal supporter of the Dallas Cowboys and found enjoyment in watching the news and content on the History Channel. He loved Chinese food and had a deep fondness for entertainment—especially watching Star Trek, oriental movies, and animated movies, which brought him relaxation and joy throughout his life.
Gilbert H. Guerrero will be remembered for his steadfast dedication, the love he shared with his family, and the quieter moments that defined his character. His legacy will live on through those he touched, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at Treviño Funeral Home, 3006 Niagara St @ Port Ave, accompanied by recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM.
