Gilbert Leslie "Les" Jones, age 88, of Alma, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Woodland Hospice House in Mt. Pleasant. He was born February 19, 1937, in Gratiot County, the son of Gilbert W. and Doris Mae (Hoyt) Jones. He was a 1955 graduate of Alma High School.
Les started working at the age of 16 for Alma Plastics and would spend 40 years with the company. He was sent to Georgia to build and work as a manager for their new location, before returning to Alma as the Head of Engineering and Development. Along with Leo Fleming, Les opened Alpha Plastics, where they worked together for many years until his retirement. He also helped part-time on the Chaffin and Mills Family Farms.
Les married the love of his life, Betty Ball, on June 15, 1957, a blessed union of 58 years until her passing on June 21, 2015. Together they took many motorcycle trips throughout the United States with their lifelong friends Ted and Barb Beard and enjoyed camping, playing cards, and wintering in Florida. Les enjoyed scuba diving and spent many hours in his woodworking shop. He was always ready for an adventure.
He was a faithful member of the Alma First Church of God where he helped in the kitchen and at social events. Being with family was his greatest joy and he always looked forward to Friday night dinner with family and friends. Les has spent the last several years living with his daughter Teri and her menage of pets.
Les is survived by his children Pam (Tom) Jeppesen of Stanton, Pastor Russ (Marsha) Jones of Wolverine, Teri Jones of Alma, Rick (Carrie) Jones of Alma; ten grandchildren Jared, Zach, Nicole, Amy Jo, Crystal, Brandon, Kayla, Amanda, Alyssa, Alexandria; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, his parents Gilbert and Doris; and lifelong friends Ted and Barb.
A Celebration of Les's Life will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 11 am at the Alma First Church of God, Filling Station 415 Park Ave., Alma. A private family interment will follow in Wright Cemetery. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Alma First Church of God, 200 W.
