My 17 year old daughter is a CNA at Shady Lane. She came home one day and said mom I met a new friend today his name is Gilbert, I wish I would have met him sooner. She knows the road is short when your on the 4th floor as her grandmother passed there just two years prior. Quickly the two became friends and on another day she said if I ever have a boy i would like to name him Gilbert . Gilly Goo was now a nickname she had for him that would make him smile. I knew without her telling me a single thing about him that he had touched her heart. I want you to know that even though during this difficult pandemic that we are all struggling with, Gilbert was not alone at Shady Lane without someone that didn't care about him. Even in his advanced age he made friends and touched hearts. Then one day she came home and said he wasn't eating. I told her you know it won't be long now and she was so sad. I told her God puts us in each others lives and all different times for a reason. You were meant to be there when his family could not to hold his hand, care for him and be a ray of sunshine that he needed. I saw the sadness when she said he had passed. I told her how blessed you were to have met Gilbert and that he will hold a special place in your heart. Chloe even posted his obituary on her Facebook page. That's when I really knew that he touched her heart. My sincere sympathy to all the family.

Dad, I miss you. I know I was loved by the many times you were there for me. You were ready to move on, but it's hard to let go. You touched more lives than you know. I pray you have eternal peace with Mom in Heaven.

I want to thank you personally Gilbert for serving this great nation and it's great people. You're truly a member of the 'Greatest Generation'. We do not share the same War but we do share our loyalty. Someday when we meet and that better place, we will sit long and talk much about our experiences. Mike Duvall, Vietnam combat veteran.
