It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dearest Gilbert Ruiz, age 69, on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
He was a generous and loving man who touched many lives with his caring and helpful nature, his sense of humor, and his open heart.
Born in San Francisco, Gilbert later moved to
Concord, CA with his family during his teenage years, where he graduated from Mount Diablo High School, established lasting family roots, and became an esteemed member of his community.
He enjoyed a long career in construction with the Cement Masons and Roofers & Waterproofers in San Francisco before his retirement in 2013.
During his retirement, he devoted much of his time helping those he cared for and volunteering with local nonprofit organizations such as Monument Crisis Center, White Kitty Foundation, and White Pony Express.
Affectionately known as a jack of all trades, he was also an automobile enthusiast, a faithful San Francisco 49ers fan, and loved music and the great outdoors– especially gardening, landscaping, fishing, camping, hunting, grilling, boating and walking his dog.
Though he was a highly skilled tradesman, his true passion was cooking. He delighted in sharing meals with family and friends, catered several events, and dreamed of one day owning his own eatery.
Gilbert was an adored husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who cherished every moment spent with those he held dear. He is survived by his loving wife, Claudia A. Ruiz; his devoted daughters, Jacqueline A. Ruson and her husband Corey S. Ruson, and Ariel A. Ruiz; and his treasured granddaughter, Luciana Ruiz, who brought immense joy to his life.
He is further survived by his brother Jose Ruiz, brother-in-law Alex Verdin, six sisters, and many nieces and nephews who were deeply important to him.
His encouragement, wholeheartedness, and the Catholic faith he lived and shared with others will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
