Gilbert Ray Whitten

Gilbert Ray Whitten age 81 went to be with the Lord on July 25, 2023.
A memorial service will be held July 31, 2023, at 2:00 pm in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday, July 30, 2023, from 2 to 4 pm. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Gilbert was born February 10, 1942, in Albion Ok to Earl Whitten and Georgia Fitzgerald.
Gilbert and his family moved to Amarillo in 1950. He graduated from Tascosa High School.
He married the love of his life, Sharon Osborn on June 1, 1963, in Amarillo. They just celebrated 60 years of marriage. Gilbert worked many years at Golden Light Equipment as a sheet metal worker and installed cafe equipment in many of the local restaurants and businesses in Amarillo. He also worked as a guard at the Clements Unit.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and daughter Jackie Whitten.
He is survived by his wife Sharon, sons Shane, Jack (Krista), and Kasey all of Amarillo. His grandson Trase and granddaughter Kensie along with Sadie, Kolton, Kase, Emmy, Tyler, and Mattie. Sisters Phyllis Rogers, Amarillo and Judy (George) Sopher, of Abilene and many other family members.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to Hillcrest Baptist Church, 2901 Martin Rd. PO Box 5620 Amarillo, TX. 79107.
