Gilbert Tarango Zapata

Gilbert Tarango Zapata, age 73, of Morton, Texas, died Friday, March 28, 2025 in Morton, Texas. He was born September 1, 1951 in Toyahvale, Texas to Chon and Manuela (Tarango) Zapata. He married Gertrudes Montes on December 13, 1972.
Gilbert worked for over 35 years at Enochs Co-op Gin and Producers Co-op Gin in Amherst. He enjoyed taking care of his garden, fishing, cooking out and building things. Gilbert was also an avid fan of western movies. He loved going places with his wife and spending time with her. Gilbert especially treasured time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Morton. He is preceded in death by a son, Gilbert Zapata, Jr. and his parents.
Gilbert is survived by his wife, Gertrudes; his son, Jerry Zapata of Odessa, Texas; two daughters, Eva Abdo of Lubbock, Texas and Lina Zapata Gonzales and Joe Jacob of Lubbock, Texas; five sisters, Anita Cruz of Morton, Texas, Estella Enriquez of Morton, Texas, Dora Enriquez of Morton, Texas, Lori Zapata of Levelland, Texas and Lupita Cruz of Levelland, Texas; six brothers, Placido Zapata of Morton, Texas, Jose Zapata of Morton, Texas; Chonito Zapata of Morton, Texas, Harvey Zapata of Morton, Texas, Albert Zapata of Morton, Texas and Mike Zapata of San Angelo, Texas; and his 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
