On Sunday, June 4, 2023, our mom, Giovanna "Jennie" Innocenti Krogulski, 95, of Dallas, passed away peacefully in her sleep.
She was born in Swoyersville to Gino and Noemi Iozzelli Innocenti. She graduated from Swoyersville High School, Class of 1945, and matriculated to College Misericordia, earning a degree in home economics in 1949.
Jennie married her high school sweetheart, Jack, and together they spent 42 years together. As it happens sometimes, they parted ways but remained friends until Jack's death in 2014.
Mom was a career woman. After Misericordia, she entered the workforce as a dietitian for General Hospital. After some time there, Jennie found her true calling and became the longtime home economics teacher at Dallas Junior High School. Dedicated, reliable and caring, she taught her students the basics of cooking and, importantly, how to enjoy the planning, preparation and consumption of a meal. Many of her former students still use her recipes. An exceptional baker, her chocolate chip cookies were legendary. Also, it was impressive the vast number, variety and quality of Christmas cookies she made during the holidays.
In large saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.
A devout Catholic, she prayed with dedication and commitment. While in good health, she was a daily communicant. She lived for years by many of the retired Sisters of Mercy in the Pines community in Dallas. She loved her time there and her family appreciated the sisters accepting her into their circle. It made her life that much better and enjoyable.
Add RICE KRISPIES® cereal. Stir until well coated.
Jennie loved her family, her children, her grandchildren, but especially her great-grandchildren. She would belly laugh watching videos of them doing all the miraculous things young children do. Truly, they made her final days special.
Using buttered spatula or wax paper, evenly press mixture into 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan coated with cooking spray. Cool. Cut into two-inch squares. Best if served the same day.
She was predeceased by her parents and her brothers, Frank and Gerard Innocenti.
Jennie is survived by her children, Judy Nieman and her husband, David and Ken Krogulski and his wife, Ann; her granddaughters, Sandra Krogulski (Chris Rodier); Susan Krogulski; Sara Krogulski (Kevin Kucharski); and Laura Nieman Willhelm (Fred); and two great-granddaughters, Avery and Riley Rodier; and three great-grandsons, Magnus and Logan Willhelm; and Lucas Kucharski.
The family would like to thank the staff at Allied Services on Meade Street, Jennifer, Tom, Sheila, nurses, Lynn and Bill, to name a few, for their outstanding care of our mother in her final days. Everyone there was helpful and kind. Also, Sister Esther Ann O'Konski, RSM, for her time spent and devotion to Jennie. Sister Esther was a gift from God who helped us considerably at the end of our mom's life.
The family is going to have a Mass in Jennie's honor at 11 a.m. Friday, July 21, in St. Therese Church, 64 Davis St., Shavertown. The family will greet friends from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Lunch will follow the Mass.
To honor Jennie, you may make a gift to a charity of your choice. Or we would suggest making and sharing some Rice Krispy Treats with someone you love!
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Wroblewski Funeral Home Inc., 1442 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort.

I did my student teaching with Mrs. Krogulski. She was a kind and nurturing role model. The addition of the Rice Krispie recipe was brilliant. They were a legendary treat in her classroom. I have several of her hand written recipes as well as many fond memories of working with her. My condolences to all of her family. How blessed you have been to have experienced her love (and cookies)!

In the late 70´s, anyone who went to Dallas Jr High remembers bringing home baked goodies in aluminum foil from Mrs. Krogulski´s Home Ec class. I still have a few of the original recipes from 1978- especially the funnel cake. Prayers to her family. She was a great teacher.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Mrs. Krogulski. She was truly one of everyone's favorite teachers in our Junior High days. I love that you added her Rice Krispie Treat recipe in her obituary. It was one of our favorite days when we got to make them. I am going to make a batch of them in her honor this weekend.
Please accept my condolences.
