Gladys Neomi Capesius

Gladys Neomi Capesius, 82, of Oskaloosa, died Thursday, October 3, 2024 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Gladys was born March 17, 1942 at Kansas City, KS, the daughter of Orla N. and Irene Detrick-Potter. She was raised by her mother and stepfather, Thomas A. Abramovitz. She was a 1960 graduate of Jarbalo High School where she was voted Homecoming Queen and Valedictorian of her Senior class. Gladys currently worked as a secretary for Jefferson County Service Organization in Oskaloosa. She also formerly owned and operated Gladys Beauty Salon, Oskaloosa, KS, Western Auto store in Oskaloosa and owned and operated the Oskaloosa Liquor Store, as well as working 10 years at Hallmark Cards in Lawrence. She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Easton. Gladys enjoyed her family and supported her grandchildren's activities.
She married Gary Aloysius Capesius on June 10, 1961 at Easton, KS, he preceded her in death on August 6, 1978. She is survived by two daughters, Pam (Dean) Newell, and Patty (John) Hamm, both of Oskaloosa, two sisters, Florence Courtney, McLouth, Betty Harmon, Bellville, PA, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Jackie Potter, Carl Potter, Gene Potter, Thomas Abramovitz, Raymond Abramovitz, Ralph Abramovitz, three sisters, Mary Peters, Goldie Knudsen, and Mary Heintzelman.
Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at Barnett Family Funeral Home, Oskaloosa. Visitation will be 1:00 to 2:00 prior to Services. Burial will be at St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery, Easton. Memorials to Jefferson County Service Organization. barnettfamilyfh.com
