Mrs. Gladys Cornett, age 97 of Cumberland, Kentucky went to be with Jesus on Thursday, January 9, 2025 in the Tri-Cities Nursing Home in Harlan. She was born on October 7, 1927 in Lafollette, Tennessee, the daughter of Warren Sanders and Nellie Williams Sanders.
Gladys united in marriage with Clyde Cornett on May 31, 1946. She lived most of her early years in Kitts, Kentucky then went on to raise her family in Gilley, Kentucky. Gladys was a homemaker and a member of the Sand Hill Baptist Church. She loved going to church and received Christ as her savior on October 6, 1974. She loved worshiping Jesus and she studied her bible every day. She was a member of the Eastern Star and had been a girl scout leader. She liked to crochet, sew, fish and travel, having visited Hawaii, Bermuda, the Bahamas and many states in the Western United States. She also enjoyed watching the birds and squirrels. Gladys was a part of the greatest generation, having made it through the great depression and World War II.
In 1988, her husband Clyde Cornett preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death is her parents, Warren and Nellie Sanders, two daughters, Brenda Sue Polly and Betty Faye Boggs, one grandchild, one brother, James Sanders, two half-brothers, Charlie and Howard Hatmaker and three half-sisters, Alita Hatmaker Whitaker, Katie Hatmaker Fee and Eurn Lee Sanders.
Left behind to mourn her passing, four children, Cathy Ann Ison and husband Terry of Cumberland, Alan Lee Cornett and wife Alma of Cumberland, Danny Lynn Cornett and wife Linda Lou of Gordon, and Norma Jean Childers and husband John of Lexington. She also leaves behind fourteen grandchildren, Patrick Todd Polly, Sonja Kay, Lisa Michael Polly, Christopher Polly, Stephen Polly, Wendy Nicole Depew, Terrence Wayne Ison, Elbert Alan Cornett, Andrea Lynn Cornett, Brianna Dannielle Cornett, Natasha Lynn Cornett, Tracey Sizemore, Maria Elizabeth Childers and Sarah Kayla Childers. Fifteen Great-Grandchildren, Chase Alexander Polly, Gavin Lee Polly, Jadin Chet Polly, Shonny Polly, Jazzlyn Kyler Polly, Victoria Watts, Jacob Depew, Kailey M. Depew, Trenton Wade Ison, Maddox Allen Cornett, Luke Arron Cornett, Destiny Ann Campbell, Andre Demetrius Cornett, Sidney Stidham and one unborn great-grandchild. Seven great-great grandchildren, Ruby Claire Watts, Ruben Michael Watts, Ava Polly, Kaysin Polly, Massiah Cambell, Aundraya Demiracle Cornett, Paxton Polly, special niece and nephew, Edd Hatmaker and Benny Jean Sanders Potion. She also leaves behind many other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.
Funeral services for Mrs. Cornett will be conducted on Sunday, January 12, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at the Sand Hill Baptist Church in Cumberland, Kentucky with Rev. Donnie Ray Dixon and Rev. Roger Colinger officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Cornett Cemetery in Gilley, Kentucky with pallbearers being grandsons and great-grandsons. The Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of the funeral at 1:00 p.m. Hampton-Hutton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
