Gladys Mountfort Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, P.A. on Mar. 18, 2026.
Gladys "Betty" E. Mountfort, 94, of Harmans, Maryland, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026.

Born in July 1931 in Camden, New Jersey, Betty was the beloved daughter of the late Myrtle (née Nausbaum) and John Burns. She was predeceased by her siblings, Jim Burns, Jennette Packer, Mary "Twinkle" Sweeten, and Margaret Hawn.

Betty was a dedicated military spouse for 15 years, serving overseas, and was a devoted mother to her daughter, Linda Clarke. She held a special bond with her son-in-law, Phil Clarke, whom she lovingly considered her own son.

Betty found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved gardening, especially tending to her flowers and even pulling weeds; watching Wheel of Fortune, and sewing. Betty was a talented seamstress, which began when she was 16 and continued throughout the years for clientele as well as when the family was stationed overseas. She was hired by Sears and Roebuck company in the early 80's, altering men's suits. She returned to self-employment after her leave from Sears, sharing her skill and craftsmanship with many in her community. Betty was also a faithful member of Glen Burnie Baptist Church.

Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Singleton Funeral and Cremation Services. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Parkwood Cemetery in Parkville, Maryland.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Betty's honor to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation, the Maryland SPCA, US War Dogs Organization or Turning Point.

Betty will be remembered for her warmth, dedication to her family, and the care she put into everything she created. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
