Glen Longer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thomas E. Burger Funeral Home, Inc. on Feb. 11, 2026.
Hilton - Glen L. Longer passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at the age of 85.

Born with a deep appreciation for the land, Glen joined the FFA in high school, reflecting his lifelong love of farming. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1959 to 1963. During the Cuban Missile Crisis, he was among the first 1,500 Marines deployed, a testament to his courage and dedication to service.

Following his military service, Glen returned home and devoted much of his life to farming, becoming a peach farmer in the local area. In addition to his agricultural work, he built a long and respected career at Eastman Kodak Company, where he retired as a group leader; followed by a second career he loved as, the head night custodian at the Merton Williams Middle School in Hilton. Glen was also a past member of the Clio Lodge 779.

Glen had many talents and interests. He enjoyed hunting and was especially gifted in woodworking, earning the nickname "The Woodcrafter" for his skill and craftsmanship. Whether in the orchard, the workshop, or spending time outdoors, he found joy in working with his hands and sharing his knowledge with others.

Glen was predeceased by his beloved wife, Karin Kohn Longer, in 2009, as well as his brothers, Robert and Kenneth Longer; and his nephew, Paul Longer.

He is survived by his loving children, Glenn (Debby) Longer and Kelly (Tim) Irwin. Glen was a proud and devoted grandfather to Kevin, Joyce & Ethan (Rachel) Lampman, Amy Cushman, Christine Longer, and Allyson (Christina) Irwin. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren Michael, Brandon, Makayla, Cayla, Isabella, Lilyana, Evan, and Caydence, who brought him great joy.

Glen is further survived by his brother, Stephen Longer; sisters-in-law, Sandy and Debbie Longer; along with several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

Glen will be remembered for his strong work ethic, quiet strength, devotion to family, and the legacy of service and craftsmanship he leaves behind. His life was a blessing, and his memory will be cherished always.

Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family, with interment in Parma Union Cemetery.
