GLEN OWEN THOMPSON
Glen Owen Thompson, age 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on October
13, 2024. Born on June 20, 1934, to Carol S. Thompson and Wilma (Billie) Selvage Thompson,
Glen lived a full and long life.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Lorretta Thompson; his daughter and son-in-law,
Michelle and Patrick McKool; and his cherished grandchildren: Kelly Thompson Hill and her
husband Chris, Zack McKool and his wife Kaylynn, and Mason McKool. Glen was preceded in
death by his parents, his brothers Jack, Wayne, and Coye Thompson, and his son Greg Owen
Thompson.
Glen graduated from Atlanta High School in Atlanta, Kansas, and attended Junior College in
Arkansas City, Kansas, before serving in the Air Force from February 1954 until his honorable
discharge. He then furthered his education at Emporia State University, where he earned a
bachelor's degree in Business. It was at Emporia State that he met Lorretta, and they married
on June 15, 1962.
Glen began his career in the oil industry which kept the family on the move throughout
Oklahoma and Texas, where he worked in the oil fields for Midcontinent Pipeline and later
retired after 26 years as a purchasing agent for Sun Oil Company.
Glen loved fishing and taught himself to play golf. He enjoyed countless hours on the golf
course with his son, Greg and son-in-law Patrick, participating in numerous tournaments
throughout Texas and Oklahoma. He proudly claimed a personal best score of 3 under par at
the Mesquite Golf Course. One of the highlights of his love of golf was attending the 2005
Masters Golf Tournament with his son-in-law, Patrick.
Glen was not only passionate about sports; he was also a great teacher. Whether playing pool,
cards, dominoes, or golf, he loved sharing his skills with others, always striving to help them
improve.
In his later years, Glen developed a passion for genealogy, immersing himself in the history of
his family.
Glen's humor, inquiring mind and dedication to his family will be deeply missed by all who knew
him. On October 25, 2024, a celebration of his life will be honored by the Air Force with full
military honors at the DFW National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that
donations be made to the Diabetes Foundation in Glen's memory.
