Glen Forest Whitaker

Glen Forest Whitaker December 31, 1922 ~ February 8, 2009 Gas City – Glen was born in Fairmount, Indiana to Forest Glen and Montrue (McGinnis) Whitaker, and they preceded him in death. He married Phyllis Barker on June 19, 1946, and she survives. He was a T4 Sergeant in the United States Army from 1943-1946. He served in the Fiji, New Guinea, Manila, and Pana Islands. He worked as a foreman at Foster Forbes for 30 years. He made the first beer bottle at the Burlington, Wisconsin Foster Forbes Plant in 1966 and worked as a production supervisor. He collected Johnson 710 fishing reels and enjoyed fishing, and working on lawn mowers after retirement. He was a member of the VFW of Gas City. Survivors include wife, Phyllis Whitaker, Gas City; daughter, Joyce (Max) Warren, Marion; son-in-law, Dan Brodt, Lakewood, WA; brother, Bill Whitaker, Gas City; 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by son, Bobby Dean Whitaker and daughter, Teresa Brodt. Visitation is from 4-8 pm on Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at Needham-Storey -Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main Street, Gas City, Indiana. Funeral Services are at 10 am on Thursday, February 12, 2009 at the funeral home with Reverend Jim Sexton officiating. Burial is at Marion National Cemetery.
