Glenda Kay Gooden McFerrin, of Clarkton, NC passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2024, while at Cape Fear Valley Bladen County Hospital at the age of 83. She was born and raised in Bladen County on December 19, 1940, the daughter of the late John Alfred Gooden and Quessie McQueen Gooden.
Glenda was affectionately known as “Mama Kay”. She was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and friend to all. She enjoyed caring for others and sharing a meal. She also enjoyed a good card game, shopping, traveling, attending church and eating seafood. Mama Kay had a heart of gold and her genuine love and affection for anyone, and she will certainly be remembered fondly.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James “Mac” McFerrin, her parents, and one brother, John Daniel Gooden. Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Pam Smith (Jimmy) of Greensboro, Jamie McFerrin (Roberta) of Newport News, VA, and Kim Fackler (Neil) of Clarkton, brother Mackie Gooden (Alice) of Clarkton, sister Sarah Melvin of Clarkton, sister-in-law Alice Lou Gooden of Whiteville, four grandchildren Colin Fackler, Josh Smith (Stephanie), Daniel Smith, Hannah Smith, four great grandchildren Jaxon Smith, Madelyn Smith, Savannah Smith and Ender Smith and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Friday, August 23, 2024, at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 24th at 11:00 am at the Clarkton Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Barrett Ingram officiating. A burial will follow the services in the Clarkton City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
