Glenda Norman Strole
Glenda N. Strole, wife of the late John Philip Strole, passed peacefully from the bonds of earth into the heavenly presence of her Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday morning, January 5th, 2025 at the age of 98 with her two daughters at her bedside.
Glenda was born in Elkin, NC on July 21, 1926 to Foley M. and Jessie A. Norman. She is preceded in death by her husband and parents, older brother Fredrick Norman, younger brother Kedron Norman, and older sisters Una Keys and Olene Tharp.
While a student at Meredith College, she met Philip Strole who was a student at NC State. She and Philip were married in the summer of 1947 after her graduation from Meredith. Upon Philip's graduation, they made their home on his family's dairy farm in Chadbourn, N.C. where they raised their three children, Norman Clark, Phyllis Lynne and Rebecca Jean. Glenda and Philip celebrated their 52nd anniversary prior to his passing in 1999.
Glenda was an active member in the Chadbourn Baptist Church where she taught a ladies Sunday School class. Glenda also taught kindergarten students at Cerro Gordo Elementary school as part of the Head Start program in the late 60s and early 70s. She was very active in the Women's Missionary Union, Sorosis Club and Garden Club in Chadbourn. Following Philip's retirement from the dairy business, Glenda and Philip enjoyed relaxing at their mountain cabin in Newland and traveling to beautiful places around the world.
